And the award for most-improved player goes to: Pinterest! I was so excited to hear that the blogging world has added a new contender in social networking, offering a platform for inspired people to express their interests on topics such as fashion, home life, and recipes. Known to their millions of users as “pinning”, Pinterest allows its users to browse beautiful pictures and texts and virtually bookmark them onto their own pinboards. By “pinning”, users like me are able to save and organize infinite ideas onto our personalized boards that we can refer back to. Pinboard themes vary from “Fashions I Love”, “Shoe Crazy!” to “My Future Wedding .” This phenomenon has boomed in usage over the past year. According to Mashable Social Media, since July 2011, Pinterest has increased in referral traffic from 0.17% to 3.6%. Their feminine fan base has initiated women to already plan their future wedding, design the interior of their future home, and have 50 recipes under their belt. This extraordinary boost in interest and fan base shows great promise for this up incoming site.
I personally love pinterest for the exact purpose it was created for – as a virtual pinboard to organize and inspire my life. Being a loyal pinner, I spent my time daily on Pinterest getting inspired by what is being posted by other people. The one thing I love most about using Pinterest is having the ability to network with other pinners and have a mutual following of each other’s boards. I have reconnected with old friends via Pinterest and become new friends with others. I find myself creating new boards to accommodate the vast inspiration I get from browsing through the website. Some of my personal favorite boards are “walk into my closet” (a dedication to the beauty of shoes), “handy dandy” (useful tips and interesting finds), and “words of wisdom” (sayings and quotes that inspire). I have found myself looking back onto my boards to figure out an outfit to wear for date night and even what to cook for dinner under my “get in my belly” board. The inspirations and knowledge is endless on Pinterest and you don’t have to lose sight of where you found it. You already "pinned" it.
One of my favorite quotes I read from SwimSpot’s pinterest was under their “Words to Live By” board:
Here at SwimSpot, we love all kinds of inspiration. From how to dress up designer swimwear to hair style trends to rock at the beach in our new swimsuit, Pinterest has been one of the places we love to go to for laughs, smiles, and knowledge. Until next time, stay fabulous and eat well.
