Last Sunday was spent glued to the television watching the
62nd Primetime Emmy Awards, I love watching celebrities dazzle the
red carpet and welcome the paparazzi for once. It was exciting to see so many
new shows like Glee and Nurse Jackie nominated—and even more
exciting to see them win! Round of applause for Modern Family’s six awards!
While I love watching all the stars relax and enjoy the
show, I’m not so much interested in who
was nominated as I am in what they were
wearing. With that, I give you my round up of the 2010 Emmy Award’s finest
dressed.
One Shoulder is All You Need: You might recall SwimSpot’s Facebook
post about the one-shoulder trend being all over the place, well we at Swimspot
weren’t the only ones feeling the trend. One-shouldered gowns were all over the
red carpet. My favorite was Julie Benz of No
Ordinary Family, who made it look so effortless and classy all at the same
time. She let her dress take center-stage by keeping her jewelry to one
statement necklace that balanced perfectly with the details on the dress.
Singing with Glee: Though Glee didn’t take home as many awards as I was banking on, the Glee cast still rocked it on the red
carpet! The two who stood out the most to me were Amber Riley and Jane Lynch.
The red carpet saw many ethereal-type white dresses (hello Kim Kardashian and
Eva La Rue). Personally, I thought Amber embodied a true goddess. Her dress
complimented her frame perfectly, and the simplicity of the gown paired with
that gorgeous waist was spot on for the Emmys. I was also impressed by Jane
Lynch’s elegant eggplant gown. It had just enough volume to balance her willowy
stature and the beautiful jewel tone suited her skin tone so well! Jane was a
style-winner and an Emmy winner, I guess
that’s two more trophies she can add to Sue
Sylvester’s trophy case.

Oh, and I can’t forget Jayma Mays’ out-of-this-world
Burberry Prorsum gown! Somebody get me the number of her stylist, quick! I
could hardly recognize that Jayma, who usually plays the shy Emma Pilsbury -channeling more of an
Audrey Hepburn-type look than a Bridgette Bardot. In that gown and with those
gold bangles, Jayma’s look screamed screen siren.
The Color Purple: Another hot trend I noticed on Sunday was
purple…and lots of it! While I hated this color as a child (grape-flavored
cough syrup, yuck!), seeing so many purple gowns has changed my attitude towards
the color 180 degrees. Katrina Bowden hit a homerun in a flirty, wildflower
purple BCBG Max Azria number. While Cheryl Hines sported calming lilac Zac
Posen, the dress may have been demure in color but the details were edgy enough
to balance it out. This color looks great on dresses and I’m willing to bet
that it looks even hotter on swimsuits!

Retro Frockstar: I’m all about vintage, especially when it
comes to dresses. I’ve never been so into the whole ‘80s Revival’ look, but
even I have to admit that Jennifer Carpenter’s dress deserves its own award.
The Dexter star looked fresh in her
80s-inspired gown which was covered in glitz. She took the one-shoulder trend
to the next level with a full-length sleeve.
Winner Takes All: While all of these gorgeous dresses have
me drooling, I did have a favorite. Maria Menounos’ stunning Ralph & Russo
couture gown had me floored. I’ve never seen a couture dress that was better
suited for the Emmys. The all-over beading added over-the-top glamour, which
was cleverly balanced by the sleek silhouette. Can we talk about that cut-out? Pure Genius. The modest front
gives way to a gorgeously exposed back. A cut-out this sexy would have to make its way into a swimsuit. To top it all
off, Maria’s red lip is the perfect nod to the golden days of ‘Old Hollywood’.
Looking at all these dresses has got me feeling like I need
to own something sparkly. Off to the mall it is for me!
Xoxo
