There is nothing like diving into Fall by watching the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards which aired this past Sunday. Let’s face it, the VMAs are notorious for outrageous fashion, eye-popping performances, and daring dynamics. And this year was no different than the rest. While the drama was kept on simmer- unlike last year’s outrage resulting from the Kayne-Swift debacle- the VMAs were anything short of exciting.
The various performances rocked the house this year with theatrics quite unlike anything we’ve seen before. Performers were on their A-game as far as making this an award show to be seen. Eminem got the crowd started with his hit new single-attributing his comeback, “I’m Not Afraid” and made an even bigger splash with Rihanna’s surprise appearance in their magnetic duet, “Love the Way You Lie.” Along with her humor, Chelsea Handler made the night a memorable affair by being the first woman to host the VMAs in 16 years. Even more, we also got to see performance debuts by Florence and the Machine, Drake, Mary J. Blidge, and so much more!
Of course we found it hard to miss the subtle, yet much anticipated confrontation between Taylor Swift and Kayne West. If they couldn’t talk about it face to face, they at least duked it out on stage in their own way. Who knows, this could be a strong change for both the artist; a darker side for Taylor and a softer image for Kanye. Would it be too soon to consider a potential future collaboration? Eh, probably….
Despite all the performances, chaos, and fashion dos and don’ts nothing said VMAs nor wowed the crowd like Lady Gaga’s triumphant victories and awe-shocking ensembles. Lady Gaga never fails to surprise us here at Swimspot and we can’t say we hate it! Although we were disappointed not to be dazzled with one of her performances, her wardrobe changes alone were a spectacle to be seen.
Her red carpet look, an Alexander McQueen masterpiece paired with a Gaga inspired golden feathered headdress, easily captured Gaga’s spin on royalty.
Following her acceptance of Best Female Video, Gaga took home Best Pop Video dressed in a black Armani dress that even she admitted was too heavy to walk in.
To top off the evening in both victories and style, Gaga received Best Video of the Year wearing a unique dress designed by Franc Fernandez. Not only was the dress made solely out of meat but it was accompanied by a meat purse and shoes to match!
With Lady Gaga on the mind, we here at Swimspot have decided that this Fall is the season to be bold. We are not saying you have to wrap yourself with meat scraps but rather step outside of your fashion box and channel a little inner Gaga. You could surprise yourself!
