The good news is that there are lots of great options this season to help you look great while accentuating your body type and your unique personality. Here are a few of the great styles to look for in 2011 bathing suits:

Animal Prints — Make a statement at the beach this summer with a sexy leopard print or tiger stripe. The combination of natural patterns and bold color contrasted with black stripes or spots are impossible to ignore. Don’t worry if orange and yellow aren’t your colors. Designers are improving on nature by doing animal pattern prints in a wide variety of colors, from playful pink to cool blue to mysterious purple. Look for animal prints on bikinis with tie sides and sweetheart tops to make you the queen on the jungle.

Jungle Vibes — If you want a natural look without the big cat boldness, you can’t go wrong with a colorful African print or camouflage in shades of green. But don’t count on blending in if you go camo, because the swirling patterns of olive, grey, and jungle greens are sure to get the enemy’s attention. You can find 2011 camouflage swimsuits in either jungle greens or urban greys, and in a wide variety of cuts, from sleek halter-tops to breezy lounge pants. Ruffled details and scalloped necklines add to the leafy jungle mystique. Try accentuating the camo pattern with a solid top or peekaboo pullover.

Metal Detailing — Metal accents and details add a sleek, modern edge to 2011 bathing suits, even the tried and true basic blacks. Metal rings at the shoulders, sternum, and hips give suits a hip urban industrial look. Metal studs and grommets give you an edgy rocker chick vibe. Be sure and get a quality designer swimsuit so you can be sure that the metal is treated against corrosion from seawater and chlorine. And don’t be surprised if the sun glinting off the metal catches a little extra attention.

Butter Yellow — The trendy color in 2011 bathing suits is the soft and subtle butter yellow. Butter yellow makes a beautifully soothing primary color for a shapely one piece or a playful bikini. If you’re worried that butter yellow may be a little boring, you’re in for a treat. You can find butter yellow paired with other colors like navy blue in broad stripes for a playful honeybee look. You can also use butter yellow bottoms as a solid accent against yellow and green patterned tops. Some designers are also using butter yellow strings and piping to give patterned 2011 bathing suits a summery sundress look.

Shades of Blue — The other big color trend in 2011 bathing suits is in lighter shades of blue. Sky blue and turquoise have a cool, soothing contrast to the hot days of summer, especially when paired with black patterns or details, and worn in one-piece bathing suits or fuller cut two pieces. If you’re going to go light blue on the beach this summer, go for more coverage. If you like your suit a little skimpier, try a darker blue like navy or denim.

Neon Colors — The off-the-shoulder looks of the early 90s are coming back in clothes, so its no surprise that the neon colors of the early 90s are coming back to 2011 swimwear. From flashy neon yellow solids to bold patterns of electric blue and fuchsia, neon colors are a bold and eye-catching choice. You can also find bikinis with neon colored bead accents that are sure to draw attention.

Retro One-Piece Bathing Suits — Skimpy bikinis are great if all you want to do is lounge around on the beach soaking up the sun, but if you actually want to use your swimsuit for, you know, swimming, you can’t beat the old-school one piece for functionality. But don’t worry about the stereotypes that one-pieces are for little girls and old ladies. Designers are using new cuts and patterns to make the 2011 bathing suits as form fitting and eye-catching as they are functional. So pick up a bright, colorful one-piece so you can run, play beach volleyball, or take a dip in the ocean without fear of a wardrobe malfunction.

High-Waisted Two-Piece Bathing Suits — If you want a two-piece suit to show off the abs you’ve been working on all winter, there is a great option in 2011 bathing suits with high waists and fuller coverage in the tops. The waists on theses retro two-pieces come up to the smallest part of your waist (usually above the belly button) to make you look slimmer and accentuate your hips. Look for swimsuits in a polka dot or floral pattern to give you a retro ‘40’s pin-up vibe.

Tropical Patterns — Tropical looks were on the shelf for a long time after their popularity in the 90s, but 2011 bathing suits are starting to bring back the colorful, floral and stylized jungle patterns of Hawaiian prints. The contrast of cool ocean blues with hot pinks and yellows evokes the feeling of sitting on the beach in Waikiki while the warm ocean laps at your ankles. Look for playful bandeau cut bikinis and strapless one-pieces to give you that island girl feel. Accentuate the look even further by matching your suit with a breezy patterned coverup.

Unique Details — Designers are really going all out in making their 2011 bathing suits unique and offering a wide variety of options for any kind of style. You can find one-piece suits with cutout sides or skirty ruffles and scallops. Bikinis can also come with bottoms that have a skirt, a double strap, or a front tie. Remember that you can still stay on-trend with the right colors and patterns, while expressing yourself with the little details that really capture attention. This means that, with a little looking around, you can find suits with little details that make it uniquely yours, to suit your individual personality.

There are plenty of different colors, cuts, patterns, and looks to choose from in 2011 bathing suits. So many, in fact, that no one swimsuit could possibly have them all. Some suits give you a dark and sultry look, while others are flirty, colorful, and playful. So while you look for the hippest, cutest new bathing suit for this spring and summer remember to focus on finding the suit that accentuates your unique shape and your unique personality.
