7 Ways to Boost Your Metabolism!!

Hey Everyone,

It’s summer and we all want to look good and better yet FEEL Good.  So I have picked what I thought was to be 7 amazing ways to boost your metabolism.  So choose 1, or 2 or all of them and see if they make you feel better and happier.  I have just started doing all of these and feel absolutely unbelievable.   I have so much energy and can do everything I want in my day so try it out!!!

Eat breakfast
It may be hard to believe but breakfast is the most important meal of the day as far as metabolism and weight loss is concerned because it gets you going and starts your day off RIGHT.  It has been proved that breakfast eaters lose more weight than breakfast skippers so eat a healthy, well-balanced breakfast.  Your metabolism slows while you sleep and doesn’t start again until you eat again so waiting until lunch to eat means that your body won’t burn as many calories until lunchtime.  So eat a nutrient-rich morning meal like oatmeal with almonds and berries, or a spinach-and-feta omelet with a slice of whole-grain toast shortly after getting out of bed to wake up your metabolism.

Rev up your workouts
Adding interval training to your workout is a great metabolism booster.  This means adding 30-second sprints into your jog every 5 minutes or adding a 1-minute incline to your walk on the treadmill.  Since your body is working harder, it's a more intense workout and you therefore burn more calories.

Pile on the protein
Research has shown that eating lots of protein can boost your metabolism, causing you to burn an extra 150 to 200 calories a day.  Protein is made up of amino acids, which are harder for your body to break down so you burn more calories getting rid of them.  So try to have a serving of protein like nuts or a small can of tuna, or a piece of low fat string cheese, at every meal and snack.  This will give you the energy to keep you going throughout your day!

Recharge with Green Tea
Drinking green tea gives you the benefit of caffeine that coffee and soda give except it is much healthier. The ingredients in green tea have shown to rev up the metabolism and if you drink 2-4 cups of tea a day, you can burn 17% more calories a day.  Those who drink green tea will lose more weight than those who don’t, so switch it up - have it hot or pour it over ice for the perfect refreshment.  I am going to tell you that I am the biggest soda drinker, I need it, and it makes me feel good! I thought switching to green tea would be impossible, but guess what I have loved it!  I feel better and it’s much more healthier for me, so if I can do it I know you can.

Break up your exercise routine
Whenever possible try and add some exercise to your day. That can mean taking the stairs instead of the elevator or parking farther away from your office to add some healthier walking into your day.  Bring some weights to your office and do them for 15 minutes on your lunch break.  Even if it’s getting up to stretch and walk around for 5 minutes, I promise you will end up burning more calories if you do these little things.

Nibble all day
It sounds crazy; eating all day if you wanted to lose weight, but I promise you it works.  By eating 5-6 mini meals throughout the day rather than just 3 heavier meals every day keeps your metabolism humming 24/7, so why not snack all day.  This also will prevent you from going without food so long that you become so hungry that you then overeat once it’s lunch or dinner.  So try not to let more than four hours go by before you eat and include protein in your meals for an extra metabolic boost.   So why don’t you try this new eating habit? Start your day off with a high-fiber breakfast of cereal and fruit right when you wake up.  Then have a midmorning snack of a delicious yogurt and piece of fruit.  For lunch, have chicken or fish and a salad and for your afternoon snack, eat a banana and piece of cheese.  For dinner have turkey, salmon or another piece of protein with some steamed veggies…delicious.

Get some shut-eye
Even though I hate sleeping, IT IS IMPORTANT.  You have to sleep or your body does not function as well.  Skimping on sleep can derail your metabolism so getting some sleep will help process those carbohydrates.  It has been proved that when you're exhausted, your body lacks the energy to do it’s normal day-to-day functions, which include burning calories, so your metabolism is automatically lowered.Getting the right amount of sleep for you will help boost your metabolism.
