Circuit Training with Kelly Paul

Break away from your normal workout that includes the dreaded treadmill by trying out a quick circuit training workout. Yes, you can torch calories without having to do endless amounts of cardio. Kelly Paul, Next by Athena’s Head Ambassador, gives the SwimSpot team, as well as our dedicated readers on “The Spot”, some quick circuit training to do while at the gym or in the comfort of your own home.

Circuit Training Step-by-step Routine

1.    Get a sculpted back with push-ups. Do as many push-ups as possible in a 30 second span. Try full body push-ups to get maximum results. For less impact on your body try the modified push-up. Rest for 30 seconds.

2.  Get your backend in shape to show off this season in a Brazilian. Squats are key to make this happen. Do squats for 30 seconds. Be sure to keep proper form by squatting in a wide second position. Be sure to use a mirror to keep your posture in check. Rest for 30 seconds.

3.  Desire washboard abs? Opt for crunches not sit ups. Do controlled crunches for 30 seconds. Be sure to put your hands behind your head for proper support and have your elbows wide to get full results. Remember, it doesn’t matter how many you do if you don’t do crunches properly. You want to create long, lean muscles. If you do crunches quickly and carelessly this often results in knotted muscle tissue. Rest for 30 seconds.

4.  Show off your long lean legs by spring break. Lunges work not only your leg muscles but also your rear. Do lunges for 30 seconds. Tip – make sure your knee doesn’t come over your toe when you are lunging. Be sure to check yourself in a mirror and focus on slow, controlled movements. Rest for 30 seconds.

5.  Torch calories quickly with a jump rope. Jump rope for 30 seconds. Remember – there are several ways to jump rope so mix it up from time to time. Rest for 30 seconds

Repeat entire sequence 4 times.

The best part of this workout is that all you really need is a jump rope and some floor space – and it’s done in just about 20 minutes! Want some more fitness tips from Kelly? Check out her Bio Blog or read a little about Pure Barre yoga, Kelly’s specialty.

In terms of fashion, this is definitely my favorite time of year – I especially love the bold pops of color that are trending this season. And of course, the layers! But unfortunately, being bundled up in sweaters and coats doesn’t quite give me the motivation to work out. I won’t be sporting a bikini any time soon anyways so what’s the point, right? Wrong! We’re all aiming for that perfect beach body once Spring rolls along, so why not start working for it now? Getting toned and fit is a gradual process—although I’m sure we all wish it would happen overnight.
