“Today, Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures."
Everyone should pay attention to what Komen does. SwimSpot does. We care. And if this is the first time you’ve heard about Komen, check out their history. They’ve done so much in their 18-years of existence.
This past Saturday concluded a 12-day promotion and awareness campaign that SwimSpot and Kimera Restaurant & Lounge held for the Orange County Affiliate of Komen Race for a Cure. From June 29 through July 10 our SwimSpot.com Boutique at the Irvine Spectrum was decked out in pink.
On Saturday we seriously turned pink up a notch for a special event catered by Kimera. Our mannequins donned our favorite pink swimsuits. The martinis were pink. The Kimera salmon crostinis were pink. The cookies – which were a hit by me and most of the kids who came into the store – were pink. My Hurley shirt was pink. Picking up a theme here? The event was a blast as hundreds of people visited the store, enjoyed food & drink, made donations, hung out, and asked our friends from Komen (Cadance, and survivor Rebecca) lots of Q’s.
Over the 12 day campaign we proudly donated 15% of sales. We did this because we care. We did this because 1-in-8 women in their lifetime will be diagnosed with breast cancer; 1-in-3 women will be diagnosed with some form of cancer; and 1-in-2 men will be diagnosed as well. Cancer affects us all. And Komen is helping to fight it!
Our campaign hit home with me personally because my dad is currently recovering from melanoma, and has already beaten prostate cancer. Cancer is prevalent in my family. It may be in yours too. So screen yourself, and go see a doctor and have he or she formally screen you too, especially for cancers that are prominent in your family history.
On behalf of the SwimSpot team, thank you Komen. Thank you Cadance. And congrats to you Rebecca for being a breast cancer survivor going on 5-years and sharing your story. Thank you so very much.
