I am a snacker. I sit at the computer or in my car on the road and I want to munch. I don’t know what it is but snack foods are one of my guilty pleasures. And in an attempt to maintain my New Year’s Resolution of improved eating habits, I’ve looked into some yummy and healthy snacks. These are some my favorite snack foods that don’t add on the unwanted lbs.
1. Carrots: I have trouble eating my greens. I’ll take nearly any fruit over a veggie… with the exception of carrots. Carrots have Vitamin A, which helps maintain good eyesight. They are also packed with fiber, antioxidants, and minerals. Plus, baby carrots are great for car rides and are mess-free!
2. Popchips: In 7 flavors (including my favorite, Sour Cream and Onion), popchips are an all-natural snack that isn’t fried or even baked. No hydrogenated oils and no MSG make this chip a healthy and yummy alternative to the usual chip and dip.
3. Walnuts: Vitamin E in walnuts can aid in protection from heart problems. Walnuts also have potassium – which helps prevent cramping while working out – and magnesium, another vital mineral. Any other bonuses? Walnuts can help in a decreased risk of certain cancers.
4. Low Fat Granola: YUM. Granola can be eaten warmed, at room temp, with hot or cold milk, and in almost any other fashion. Low fat granola with whole grains gives you, and me, the carbs we need with the vitamins and minerals we can’t live without.
5. Trail Mix: My favorite trail mixes are the ones with dried fruit. I especially love dried raspberries mixed with almonds. Trail mix gives you sweet and salty all in one. Great for hiking and days full of activities, trail mix has carbohydrates from the dried fruit and granola as well as mono- and polyunsaturated fats from nuts for sustained energy.
Sticking out my resolution and eating healthier is becoming easier when there are great snack foods like these are available and in almost any store. We can all be ready for swimsuit season in no time. What are some of your favorite snacks?

Erica
