To-Do Fad Diets

What kind of shape has the New Year put you in? Has Fly-by-February got you in a panic? Us too!

Seeing that swim season is just around the corner, we’ve been watching our waistline and counting the calories. However, the innumerable hours of cardio and hundred calorie crunch sessions are not showing us any mercy (well at least, no yet), or results! Fixin’ for the fast track to a tighter bod? Did someone say “DIET!”?

We’ve got a few new and fabulous food fads that you won’t believe. So before you go South Beach on us, be sure to check out these ripely new global diets “to do” list.

1.    The Banana Diet. Japan’s crazed banana diet focuses on eating a banana in the morning and at 3pm with room temperature hot water. The supposed popular banana diet is leaving the produce aisle at grocery stores in short supply. Loving bananas allows you to eat virtually anything for lunch and dinner. The trick is no desserts, no eating after 8pm, and hitting the sack no later than midnight. It doesn’t sound too bad! But can we sneak in a banana split or banana cream pie with that?

2.    Coconut Diet. Lately we’ve been seeing celebrities holding juice boxes of what... none other than coconut milk! Jennifer Aniston is a big advocator of the coconut diet claiming it is a metabolism booster, fat burner and even fights off nasty little viruses. We recommend incorporating coconut milk or oil in salad dressings, shakes and any entrée or side rich in protein and fiber. However, doctors suggest keeping your eye on your cholesterol levels while focused on this diet. Coconuts are chock full of the bad stuff – so make sure to balance things out. Sounds coco NUTS to us.

3.    Get your face analyzed! Kate Winslet swears by getting your face analyzed by looking for evidence of food intolerances. What’s behind it all? The face is a very sensitive part of your body which is affected by internal fluctuations and imbalances. The diet only works because it forces us to do what we’re supposed to do already: drink more water, eat more vegetables, get the suggested 7-8 hours of sleep, blah blah blah. And, spend some serious time looking at ourselves in the mirror; which we do everyday…

4.    Cabbage Patch Kids! You eat cabbage soup for seven days. It’s a no brainer: you lose weight fast, but how long can your taste buds take it before the cravings start kicking in? Now here is something to keep in mind – loads of people who trial this diet, and lose weight, end up eating all those pounds back once they jump back on the proverbial biscuits and gravy train. Our suggestion is to not go off the cabbage soup cold turkey. Add cabbage to your regular nutrient –rich meals to keep the weight down. And continue to be smart about what you eat and the portions – no Sizzler sessions allowed!

5.    Grapefruit Diet. You eat half a grapefruit before each meal, but your meals are teeny tiny. No wonder you lose weight with it because you’re scraping off 800 calories from your meal!

6.    Fat Flush Diet. Flaxseed oil, water, and cranberry juice will be your BFF with this diet. Caffeine and alcohol are strictly banned. Detox your liver, which will lead to healthier skin, a healthier heart, and return you to that natural high that kept you fresh as a teenager.

While all these fads take dieting to a new obscene level, remember that they’re called “fads” for a reason. They’re trendy and temporary, while inner beauty is constant. To aid any diet be sure to back it up with cardio 4-5 times a week, 30-45 mins at a minimum!  This will jump start your banana diet in no time. Ignore the scale now and then and live a little. Sometimes you can have your cake and eat it too! We recommend at least one day a week that you just go for it, splurge. By doing this, your buddy will come to expect it, and you’ll be able to fight the daily urge that your struggle with now. Life’s too short for being thin as a rail or grumbling “I’m always hungry” stomachs. Another tip in any diet is to cut out the sweets and sugary drinks. So try to limit yourself on all the post Valentine’s Day candy. A simple aim of “I want to be healthy” is a beautiful aspiration. Setting goals for yourself will only make you stronger. And when you reach them you will be feeling better than ever. When you’re shining, happy, and beautiful on the inside, it resonates on the outside too. Love your strengths, love your flaws, and love ALL of you. Xoxo.
