Vogue India seeks to make an effective fashion statement concrete with a bold message. The April cover title read, “The Dawn of Dusk” and features five dark-skinned models taking a stand against color discrimination within the country.
Among these bronzed models was Gia Johnson Singh. She posed in her beautiful skin, flowing hair and a nude colored suit that brought this fabulous look together.
This issue of Vogue India wants to encourage women of all skin colors to embrace their outer beauty by looking within, promoting the fact that all women can make a fashion statement. Whether you are a Snow White or a Jasmine, beauty comes in every color, size, and shape.
Some women in India are so self-conscious about their skin color that they often use harmful skin-whitening products. They believe that ‘white is right’ and the market continues to flood the area with dangerous creams. Even children as young as age 9 are smearing on creams containing carcinogenic chemicals to lighten their skin.
By advancing this fashion movement, Vogue India hopes to discourage teens from buying these dangerous whitening products and embrace themselves and their culture. We love the bronzed goddess look; it is nothing less than perfect when paired with a SwimSpot bikini.
