Your Perfect Facial Cleanser

Finding the right facial cleanser is important and can be challenging.  I have done my research to give you advice on finding the perfect cleanser. There are two parts to this journey: knowing your skin type and choosing the facial cleanser that addresses the needs of your unique skin type.  First step ladies, your skin type. There are 5 general skin types.

Type 1: Oily Skin
With this skin type you will have a shinier complexion with enlarged pores, prone to blackheads and blemishes. You may also experience tightness of your skin, especially if you are using the wrong facial cleanser (we’ll deal with that later!). Don’t worry though, the dry skin girls would kill for some of your natural oils that nourish and replenish your skin.

Type 2: Combination/Normal Skin
Most of you will fall into this category, like I do. This skin type has medium pores, smooth and even texture, good circulation, and healthy color. You may be a little drier on the cheeks while being oily on you T-zone (forehead, nose and chin). This is definitely the ideal skin type, but be careful, you still need to maintain and cleanse your skin.  I get lazy and slack off on my cleansing and my T-zone gets out of control! This annoys my older sister, who has very sensitive skin and has to work hard to maintain it. But what can I say, us little sisters knows how to annoy our older sisters!

Type 3: Sensitive Skin
Speaking of my older sister, sensitive skin types have thinner and delicate skin with fine pores. You flush easily (especially around that cute surfer!) and are prone to broken capillaries, frequent allergic reactions and can get rashes. I feel for ya girls, but with a little hard work and the right cleanser we can deal with this skin type easily!

Type 4: Dry Skin
This skin type is obviously drier and tighter. You have a tendency toward fine wrinkles, flaking and red patches. In women of color, skin may appear ashy or dull from dead skin buildup, but we can easily prevent this with the correct cleanser.

Type 5: Aging and Sun-Damaged Skin
Now this skin is definitely my mom. Back in the day sunscreen was not the “in” thing to do! This skin type is tighter with visible wrinkles, slack skin tone- especially around cheeks and jaw line - with leathery texture and broken capillaries. Trust me, it sounds worse than it is!

Now, the fun part! Let’s choose the right facial cleanser for your personal skin type.

Oily Skin Cleanser: Try Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser that removes surface oils, dirt, and make-up without leaving your skin feeling tight. This cleanser is non-comedogenic and with its foaming effect, won’t leave any residue that may cause irritation. You can find at it at most drug stores with average cost of $9 per 8 oz. bottle.  For those with heavier oily skin try Neova Purifying Facial Cleanser that has strong cleansing power to dissolve excess oil. It uses natural ingredients including purifying tea tree, sage, thyme, and eucalyptus to clean deep down in pores.  Buy at some department stores or here with average cost of $30 per 8 oz. bottle.

Normal/Combination Skin Cleanser: To maintain your lucky skin that is evenly toned and smooth use Aloette Gentle Foaming Cleanser that is dermatologist tested. It removes excess oil and impurities while replenishing the skins natural moisture balance. Contains green tea and chamomile extracts. You can buy at most drug stores and average cost is $16 per 8 oz. bottle.

Dry Skin Cleanser: Let’s get back those oils that help replenish your dry and tight skin. Try out Cetaphil Cleanser that is mild, creamy, and isn’t loaded with chemicals or perfumes. I tend to get dry skin and I have tried this cleanser. Let me tell you, it totally worked! It is at most drug stores and average cost is $10 per bottle. If you want a more serious cleanser, use this unique cream called Ponds Cold Cream. It is super moisturizing and will remove make-up without stripping skin of essential oils. What makes this unique is no water necessary! Just slather the cream on your face and wipe off with a tissue. Sounds weird, but water contains hard contaminants that dry out your skin.  Go to www.drugstore.com to buy and average cost is $10 per bottle.

Sensitive Skin Cleanser:  Stop using facial cleansers that burn and sting your skin. This should be a refreshing and relaxing custom, even with your super sensitive skin! Try Clean and Clear Foaming Cleanser for Sensitive Skin that has gentle ingredients to lift away dirt, oils, grease, and impurities that cause bacteria. You can find this at most drug stores and average cost is $16 per bottle.  Also, try out Avene Cleanance Soap Free Facial Gel Cleanser that is hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic. I chose this cleanser for you because it is soap free and doesn’t contain all the extra stuff that other cleansers have. Less is more ladies! This cleanser helps maintain and balance oils on your face. You can find at most drug stores and average cost is $15 per bottle.

Aging and Sun-Damages Skin Cleanser: This skin type will require a more precise cleanser. Like the Kinerase Gentle Daily Cleanser that uses a foaming formula to cleanse without stripping skin of essential nutrients that are so important for this skin type. It is hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, and fragrance free.  The green and white tea extracts are anti-oxidant and the algae extract help moisturize. An added tip for this skin type I thought would be extremely helpful is Shea Butter. This is a lotion, not a cleanser that promotes cellular regeneration and improves circulation. It nourishes and hydrates skin while being a natural protection against the sun. It is also non-toxic and won’t clog pores. Go here to buy with average cost of $33.

I hope this helped you ladies. Remember, know your skin type and then pick the right facial cleanser. Life is too short to worry about your beautiful face, so with the perfect cleanser and the perfect bikini you will most definitely have the perfect day at the beach.
