10 Things We Love About Summer

Can we all agree that summer is the best season of all? Schools and colleges have a break, vacations are being planned and life seems all around easier. As we start to dive into these hot summer days, we’ve put together a list of our favorite things about the summer season.

1. Popsicles

Who doesn’t love popsicles? The hot summer days are the perfect excuse to indulge in these sweet refreshing treats (plus they make super cute photo props too). The best thing about this summer snack is that you can easily make your own with all of your favorite flavors. One of our favorites is strawberry and blueberry ice pops! You will need:

  • 1 cup of frozen blueberries, thawed
  • 1 cup of frozen strawberries, thawed
  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • ½ lemon, juiced
  • 1 pinch of salt

Combine the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a popsicle mold of your choice (if you don’t have actual popsicle molds, use plastic cups with a foil cover). Place the popsicle mold into the freezer and freeze for at least 5 hours or overnight. Enjoy!

2. Longer Days

Longer days mean more time to soak up the sunshine. Summer time means the clock has gone back and the days have grown longer. This leaves more room for any and all of your summer adventures. Best of all, long summer days turn into warm summer nights which means night swimming, bonfires and hanging out with friends under the summer stars.

3. Getting Tan

Longer days also mean more tanning time. Soak up the sunshine and vitamin D all summer long. Say goodbye and shed your winter clothes to get that healthy summer glow. Always be sure to pack your sunscreen, though, to make sure you get tan and not sunburned! Here’s some tips and tricks to help you get the best natural summer glow:

  • -Don’t burn! Always use sun protection. Too long in the sun without sun block or a floppy beach hat will get your red, not tan.

  • -Take your time to build up your tan. Tan in sessions with your first sun session being 15-20 minutes long and then gradually increase your time slowly to regulate your skin.

  • -Give your skin a break. Tanning continues a few hours after you have been in the sun so be sure to let your skin rest in between tanning sessions.

  • -Get a kick start and speed up the tanning process with a specially formulated tanning lotion. Maui Babe Browning Lotion is one of our faves. It ensures a fast and evenly applied tan while keeping your skin moisturized.

4. Beach Days

Let’s go to the beach! We all know that the beach is one of the best things about summer time. The water is warmer and it is perfect beach weather. Whether you’re surfing, stand up paddle boarding, or just lying in the sand, the beach is the perfect escape. Plus, it’s usually a great place to escape the summer heat with the beach breeze.

5. County Fairs

Games, rides and fried food- what more could you ask for? There’s something wonderfully nostalgic about going to the annual county fair. Every summer, the rides and booths are set up for a couple weeks of fun. Get ready to indulge in some very unhealthy (yet delicious) fried snacks as you win giant stuffed animals in the summer sunshine.

6. Pool Parties

Break out the bikinis and blow up the floaties, it’s time for a pool party! What’s better than a pool party with your friends to celebrate summer? Lounge poolside with friends and keep cool in the heat. And the party doesn’t have to end when the sun sets! Light up some tiki torches, grab some glow sticks and keep the party going into the summer night.

7. Summer Style

Farewell to parkas and boots, hello to stylish crop tops and flowy skirts and dresses. Summer is the ideal time to show off your best style with a ton of new summer hair, clothing and make up trends. Summer is a time when we don’t have to worry about layering and covering up, so slip on that tank dress and pair of Havaianas sandals and hit the town.

8. Fresh Fruit

Cherries, peaches, plums, nectarines and watermelon are just some of the fresh fruits that are best in the summer. In season fruit tend to be more flavorful, since it is their peek harvesting season. They tend to grow better in their peek season which leads to plentiful amounts available in your local super market or produce stand. Eating these seasonally grown fruits always seem to bring back memories of summer’s past, and are especially delicious during this time of year. Some fruits that are best in season during summer are:

Apricots, Blackberries, Boysenberries, Cantaloupes, Cherries, Currants, Figs, Grapes, Guava, Honeydew Melon, Kiwis, Limes, Mangos, Nectarines, Papaya, Peaches, Plums, Raspberries, Strawberries, Watermelon

9. BBQs

Get on the grill! Summertime is the perfect excuse to throw a barbeque with your friends and family. It’s just the right time for outdoor cooking and everything tastes better when it’s cooked on a grill, right? The possibilities for what can be cooked on the barbeque are endless! From steak, shrimp, chicken, vegetables or the traditional hot dogs and hamburgers. Whether you’re going classic or creative with your barbeque dishes, everything tastes great with your friends and family around eating outside in the summertime.

10. Swimsuits

With the every swim season, swimsuit trends emerge and evolve, creating endless possible styles for every body type. With all the beach trips, pool parties and vacations to be had in the summertime, a swimsuit is going to become a seasonal necessity. We know that sometimes swimsuit shopping can be a dread, but with all of the styles and silhouettes designed in the upcoming season, we’re positive that swimsuit shopping will be a breeze! Whichever style you prefer, it's most important to find a suit that makes you feel beautiful and comfortable. This summer is the perfect time to show off your cute new swimsuits.
