Okay, sun lover - we all know that getting to your favorite vacation destination can be a bit overwhelming. So we've teamed up with Alexandra Jimenez of Travel Fashion Girl to get her best tips for traveling.
SWIMSPOT: We all dread waiting in lines at the airport…and especially flight delays. Any ideas to pass along the time stress-free?
TRAVEL FASHION GIRL: The best way to handle long lines at the airport is to avoid them altogether! Check in online whenever possible and always travel carry-on only. I do it 365 days a year so no trip is too long for a carry-on bag if planned strategically.
Also, stay hydrated and add vitamin c packs to your water. A healthy traveler is a happy traveler.
SS: What's on your packing list for a tropical vacation?
TFG: I am always traveling in tropical climates - they're my favorite! I suggest packing lightweight synthetic fabrics to keep you cool. Maxi dresses are a great option to wear anytime, anywhere on your trip - even in transit. Denim shorts are also great because they are stylishly casual and you can wear them for days at a time.
Leave the heels at home and opt for strappy sexy sandals instead. I love dressy flip flops that you can wear on and off the beach for easy style.
SS: Help! I'm leaving for my vacation next week and I want to have a "summer glow". Any tips or favorite bronzers?
TFG: My favorite bronzer is NARS the Multiple in South Beach and it is my must have makeup essential. I take it everywhere. You can use it on your lips, cheeks, and eye lids or add a little glow on your collar bone for a dewy look.
It's also a great choice for tropical destinations where the humidity can leave streaks from powdered makeup. Tinted moisturizer, NARS the Multiple, and a bit of mascara and you're good to go!
SS: Congrats on your first eBook: Capsule Wardrobe Essentials: How to Pack Light Using a 10 Piece Packing List! What's one tip you can share with our sun loving vacationers?
TFG: Beach vacations are the easiest to pack for - especially carry-on only. All your clothing should be lightweight and stylishly comfortable. Avoid cotton fabrics and choose synthetics such as rayon and polyester blends.
For a super easy one week packing list, you can pack 7 dresses and have a unique travel outfit every day of the week. Add 2 bathing suits, 1 beach cover up, a light cardigan, a straw hat, celebrity worthy sunglasses, a pretty beach tote (that doubles up as your carryon bag), plus 2 pairs of shoes flip flops and dressy sandals and you're good to go!
SS: Where's your favorite travel destination?
TFG: I'm an avid diver so my travels are synonymous with beaches and scuba diving. Southeast Asia is the perfect area to explore - great beaches, even better prices, an amazing culture, and delicious food.
